KOHAT: The district administration on Tuesday constituted a high-level team headed by SP investigations Jamilur Rehman to probe the attack on Geo TV channel reporter, Syed Yasir Shah.

The team is to submit its findings within two weeks.

The probe body was formed after deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir and district police officer Farhan Khan held a meeting with the office-bearers of the Kohat Press Club at the police club here.

Press club president Noor Mohamad Bangash, general secretary Faisal Nadeem and others expressed deep anguish over a recent attack on the Geo TV reporter and his cameraman when they were returning after covering an event.

Mr Bangash told the officials that after the first grenade attack on the reporter’s house in March 2023 followed by threatening letters, he had lodged an FIR and demanded protection for his and his children’s lives. However, Mr Bangash lamented that the protection was not provided to him, forcing the newsman to stop sending his children to school.

He demanded of senior police and administration officials to provide security to mediapersons.

Mr Wazir and Mr Farhan said investigations were being conducted to trace the culprits.

DRUG ADDICTION: Members of a committee in Mitha Khan area here have resolved to work collectively to stamp out the menace of drug addiction and peddling.

Speaking at a meeting, they said Mitha Khan had become hub of drug users and sellers. They said drug addiction was destroying the lives of youth.

They stressed that for effectively controlling the menace, active role of police, politicians, government departments, elders and local body members was of vital importance.

On the occasion, president of Mitha Khan committee Maulana Kabeer said drug addiction was on the increase across Kohat, particularly in Bangash belt straddling the Hangu highway. He said drugs were brought here from the neighbouring Orakzai tribal district, which was a haven for hemp production.

The other speakers included Allama Qaiser Abbas, Allama Hameed Hussain Imami, Maulana Syed Hashim Raza, SHO Ustarzai police station Mujtaba Ali, assistant planning and development officer, education, Orakzai Sajjad Ali.
