KOHAT: A journalist affiliated with Geo TV channel was injured when he fell from his motorcycle after unknown persons opened fire on him on the Rawalpindi Road here on Saturday, the police said.

Yasir Shah was returning to Kohat after covering the Urs of Pir of Mukhad Sharif located across the River Indus in Punjab.

Kohat deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir, assistant commissioner Usman Ashraf and SP investigations Jameelur Rehman visited him in the KDA Hospital.

The journalist remained unscathed in the attack, and he sustained injuries after he fell from his motorcycle.

SP Rehman said the police had launched an operation in Gumbat tehsil for arrest of the attackers.

The reporter told his colleagues that he had gone across the Indus River along with his cameraman to cover the urs. He said two people riding a motorcycle opened fire at them as soon as they entered Gumbat tehsil of Kohat from the Punjab side. He said they could not recognise the assailants, who disappeared from the scene into the streets.

Mr Shah said both he and the cameraman fell from the motorcycle.

The members of Kohat Press Club and Kohat Union of Journalists condemned the cowardly act.

The Gumbat police registered a case against unidentified attackers.
