ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Federal Education on Thursday hosted a ceremony for the implementation of the Dyslexia Special Measures Act 2022 to ensure children suffering from the disease got an opportunity to learn and thrive.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty in reading. “This legislation marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to inclusive education. Dyslexia should not be a barrier to learning.

“With the implementation of this law, we aim to ensure that every child, regardless of their learning differences, receives the support and resources they need to succeed in their educational journey,” said Secretary Education Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry.

Speaking at the launching ceremony at Islamabad College for Girls F-6/2, he highlighted the collaborative efforts among the government, educators, advocacy groups and renowned organisation, IDEAS.

“This collaborative effort resulted in a groundbreaking pilot study. The study, conducted with precision and dedication, produced valuable insights into the unique needs of students with dyslexia,” he said.

An official told Dawn said the legislation was implemented in three educational institutions - ICG F-6/2, a community school and a private school. He said the education ministry and other stakeholders were now planning to implement the law in all educational institutions.
