TAIPEI, Feb 11: Aisam Qureshi and Aqeel Khan won the crucial doubles on Saturday to give Pakistan a 2-1 lead over Taiwan in their Davis Cup Asian/Oceania Zone Group I match.

Aisam and Aqeel beat Wang Yeu-tzuoo and Davis Cup rookie Yi Chu-huan 1-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-7 (5), 9-7 in a drawn-out match.

On Friday, Taiwan and Pakistan had won one match each to tie at 1-1.

The Taiwanese duo made for a quick start by winning the first set 6-1 under a sunny sky on the open-air hard court at the Taipei Tennis Club.

But in the second set, Aisam and Aqeel recovered to force Taiwan pair all the way to clinch the set in the tie-breaker, and a third-set victory turned the tide in Pakistan’s favour.

In the reverse singles on Sunday, Wang will face Aisam, while Chen Ti will play Aqeel.
