ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Thursday hosted a celebration of art and creativity at the opening ceremony of ‘SAFAR - Journey of the Mavericks,’ a captivating new exhibition featuring the works of three distinguished artists.

Masood A Khan, Ubaid Syed, and S Faraz Ali contributed their works to the exhibition, curated by Director Nomad Gallery Nageen Hyat. This attractive new exhibition offered an exploration of artistic expression, highlighting powerful and unique narratives. Each artist, with their distinct style and perspective, contributed to this exhibition, creating a blend of creativity and thought-provoking art.

The opening ceremony of ‘SAFAR - Journey of the Mavericks’ was attended by local dignitaries, students, and art enthusiasts, all of whom marvelled at the artwork displayed.

Ubaid Syed, an artist of international acclaim, mesmerised viewers with his striking paintings inspired by Lapland. His artwork portrayed vast landscapes, rich strokes, and brilliant colours, inviting viewers to interpret their own meanings. Ubaid Syed’s art reflected environmental and ecological changes, capturing the essence of the Deosai Plains in northern Pakistan.

Masood A. Khan, a self-taught artist, brought decades of experience to the exhibition. His work, recognised globally, delved into the simplicity and joy of spiritual content amidst the complexities of contemporary society. Through a blend of realism and modernism, Khan’s art served as a mirror to the world, reflecting the true essence of our surroundings.

S. Faraz Ali, a master of fine arts, offered a unique perspective on reality and political scenarios. His artwork delved into the hidden truths and veiled issues of society. Ali’s creations were an amalgamation of facts and fiction, exploring clichés as a reflection of society’s struggles with conformity and individuality. In addition to the attractive impressions, the show offered an opportunity for art enthusiasts to engage with the artists and their creative processes.

On Friday, October 20, the exhibition would host three insightful talks, featuring all three artists. Later in the day, S. Faraz Ali would be conducting an exclusive workshop, providing attendees with a unique chance to learn from his expertise. Continuing the engagement, on Sunday, the exhibition offered two knowledgeable workshops. Masood A. Khan would lead a workshop, followed by Ubaid Syed’s. These workshops not only enhanced the visitors’ understanding of the artists’ techniques but also provided a hands-on experience in the world of artistic creation.

The three artists had decided to contribute to the national artistic heritage by gifting one painting each from their collection to PNCA for the National Art Gallery’s permanent collection. PNCA, already a proud owner of more than 1,000 artworks, welcomed these additions, ensuring that the legacy of these remarkable artists became an integral part of the nation’s artistic heritage.

“This exhibition is a gift to the public, a celebration of exceptional artistic talent and a deep understanding of our world,” stated Nageen Hyat, Founder-Director of Nomad Gallery.

“SAFAR - Journey of the Mavericks” was not just an exhibition; it was a holistic experience. Alongside the artwork, the exhibition included workshops, artist’s talks, and relevant dialogues, enriching the visitor’s engagement with the artworks. The exhibition served as a powerful reminder of the artists’ journeys, their responses to local and global situations, and their contribution to the world of art. The exhibition will remain on display until October 26.
