CHILD ABUSE: It is heart-wrenching to see young children being treated brutally in society. The reason these angels fall prey to their torturous masters is poverty. Since their parents cannot afford to feed them, they send them to work in wealthy households in the hope that they would get decent meals and earn some money to keep the wheels of life moving. The perpetrators treat them inhumanely because they know that no law in the land will hold them accountable. The authorities must give severe punishment to such monsters and ensure strict compliance with relevant laws.

FORGOTTEN IDEALS: Is it not ironic that the pictures of our national heroes, especially of the Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal, adorn the walls in most government and private-sector offices, but we fail to follow their teachings? All academic institutions prominently paint their inspiring quotes on the walls, but their actions do not match the essence of such quotes. What a pity!

SUKKUR INFRASTRUCTURE: Despite being a major city, Sukkur lacks basic road infrastructure. The old city particularly is full of damaged and bumpy roads, and their condition has deteriorated over the last couple of years. Damaged roads and garbage dumps have really taken away the charm of a city that in the good old days was as beautiful as Islamabad.

PICNIC SPOT: While on a visit to Karachi recently, I stayed in an apartment in Clifton area. The view from the fifth floor provided a glimpse of sports facilities adjacent to the Boat Basin. While the sports facilities looked well-maintained, the basin looked more like a pool of dirty water in some slum. The place is beautiful and can be transformed into a sort of picnic spot by focussing on cleanliness.
