GUJRAT: The Gujranwala police on Monday arrested the owner of a renowned ceramics brand after cheques of his company worth Rs123m for payment of outstanding electricity bills were dishonoured.
According to the sources in Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco), the company was a defaulter of around Rs428m.
Muhammad Hussain, a Gepco officer, had lodged a complaint with the Kamoke City police of Gujranwala that Sheikh Mahmood Iqbal, the director of Master Tiles and Ceramics Industries Ltd, had issued different cheques worth Rs123m about six months back to pay dues for the electricity consumption.
When the cheques were deposited with the official bank account of Gepco on April 4, all of them bounced due to the insufficient balance in the account of the defaulter company. He sought registration of a case against the director.
Police registered a case against Sheikh Iqbal, arrested him and locked him up in the Kamoke City Police Station.
