ISLAMABAD, Feb 7: Members of the National Assembly on Tuesday assured full support to traders and tenants in introduction of just and fair rent system in the federal capital.

They were addressing the protest demonstration organized by Tenant Association, Islamabad, in front of the Parliament House to press the government for acceptance of their demands.

The tenants comprised mostly those shopkeepers and businessmen of Islamabad who have been facing eviction notices form the owners. They distributed handbills regarding Tenant Amendment Bill amongst MNAs and members of the Senate.

The MNAs and political representatives included state minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, MNA Farid Paracha, MNA Mamona Hashmi, MNA Maulana Hafiz Hussain Ahmad, MNA Maulana Abdul Malik, Zamarud Khan, Usman Advocate, Gul Rehman, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Assadullah Bhutto and Syed Naqib Ali Shah.

These political figures assured full support to the protesting shopkeepers. They promised that the issue would be raised in the Assembly session.

Speaking to the protesters, Muhammad Ali Durrani said the issue should be resolved through negotiations instead of protests.

MNA Farid Paracha called for justice and fairplay in resolution of the issue.

Mamona Hashmi said that people who were doing businesses for years should not be dislodged. She termed it a great injustice.

Hafiz Hussain assured that the MMA would provide full support to tenants in the acceptance of their demands for implementation of a just and fair rent system.
