PESHAWAR, Feb 6: An Iranian diplomat said here on Monday that Tehran would continue diplomatic discourse to foil America’s bids to isolate the country in the international community on nuclear issue.

Speaking at a news conference, Mohammad Hassan Emani, the consul-general of Iran, said that talks were under way with Russia on uranium enrichment.

He said that Iranian government would continue diplomatic efforts to settle the row before the matter was reported to the UN Security Council.

“Washington and its followers oversight the situation and they can’t isolate Iran over nuclear issue,” Mr Emani said.

“We are discussing the matter with Moscow and there is a possibility to engage China before the issue is reported to the UNSC,” he said, adding that Tehran would use its cards properly. He appreciated Pakistan’s stand on Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Mr Emani said that Iran was not Iraq because people of Iran supported the revolution.

The Iranian diplomat said that Iran had made progress and was emerging as a big economic power.

He said that America and its allies considered Tehran a big threat and were hatching conspiracies to block its progress.

Highlighting Iran’s achievements over the past 28 years, the consul-general said that the per capita income was $1,064 in 2001 which rose to $1,985 dollars in 2005.

He said that the country’s inflation had come down from 11.4 per cent to 9.3 per cent while its annual oil production had increased from 19,339 million barrels to 35,000 million barrels.
