KARACHI: Prof Shahida Kazi, former journalist, news producer of Pakistan Television (PTV) and head of Karachi University’s Department of Mass Communication, was on Wednesday awarded lifetime membership of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) in recognition of her services to education and journalism.

Speakers at the ceremony—mostly her students working in the mainstream media and teaching at different universities— paid glowing tributes to her and observed that her becoming the lifetime member was an honour for the KPC.

Prof Kazi thanked the KPC and said that she was completely overwhelmed by the love and respect showered by her students, who she said were real assets in her life.

She advised the journalists not to consider their work as duty or obligation. “Rather you should consider it as a hobby and enjoy it,” she said.

Paying tribute to his teacher, Prof Dr Tauseef Ahmed Khan said Prof Kazi had never made any compromise on her principles despite the difficult environment of the university.

Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas said that the only difference between KPC and other institutions was that other institutions were giving awards to officers and the KPC was giving awards to professors.

KPC Secretary Shoaib Ahmed, A. H. Khanzada, Amir Latif, Abid Hussain, Khalid Farshori, Nuzhat Sheerin and others also spoke.
