RAWALPINDI: Police on Friday claimed to have smashed narcotics networks and supply chain in the district and arrested 306 drug peddlers since Aug 23.

Talking to Dawn, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani said the police also detained the suppliers of drugs to educational institutions.

He said special police teams in uniform and plain clothes were in the crackdown on drug peddlers as they have been keeping an eye on drug peddlers and their supply chain.

During the intensive crackdown, 185 places were raided and 306 suspects were arrested by the police during 17 days, said the CPO.

He further revealed that more than six and a half tons of hashish, more than two kg of heroin, 1,000 liters of alcohol and ice were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.

Apart from the crackdown, five awareness walks, seven seminars and lectures against use of drugs were also organised to keep citizens informed about the dangers of drugs.

During this year, the Rawalpindi police have registered 2,296 cases and arrested about 2,300 drug dealers, from whom nearly 39kg of hashish, 26kg heroin, four and a half kg ice, 456 grams narcotic pills, 17 and a half kg opium and 12,000 liters of alcohol were recovered, the CPO revealed.

CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani said the drug networks and supply chain have been smashed by accelerating the ongoing crackdown against drug dealers.
