MARDAN: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a man for torturing her daughter to death three weeks ago.

ASP Resham Jehangir told journalists that on a tip-off, they traced the alleged killer and arrested him after three weeks of the incident. She said that the arrested man tortured to death his daughter over a petty issue in Chamrang village of Garikapoora area on August 12.

The official said that the slain girl was identified as Thania Gul, 12. She said that according to preliminary investigations the man identified as Zahoor Mohammad first reprimanded his daughter for taking food items brought home by his father. She said that the man was not at good terms with his father so he was angry at his daughter for accepting food items from her grandfather.

The ASP said that the man started thrashing his daughter that resulted in her instant death. She said that the accused had contracted second marriage after divorcing his first wife. She said that the second wife of the accused was also staying with her parents after developing differences with him.

She said that the alleged killer had four children, including the slain daughter, from his first wife.

Meanwhile, police arrested two alleged drug peddlers identified as Khanpur and Sikandar Azam, residents of Babini, and recovered more than three kilograms of ice, two pistols and 26 cartridges from them. Police also seized their vehicle used in drug smuggling.
