Homage paid to Wali Khan

Published February 5, 2006

SWABI, Feb 4: The Awami National Party (ANP) organized a ceremony here on Friday to pay homage to veteran nationalist leader Khan Abdul Wali Khan. Speaking on the occasion, ANP leaders said Wali Khan would be remembered for his struggle for the rights of Pukhtuns and restoring true democracy in the country.

His death had created a vacuum of leadership in the Pukhtun community, they said.

According to former provincial general secretary of the ANP Salim Khan, the great Pukhtun leader always stood by his principles and advocated for the rights of the oppressed people. The death of Wali Khan had marked the closure of a glorious chapter in the national politics, he added.

ANP district president Rehmanullah said the Pukhtuns, especially the people of Swabi district, would always remember Wali Khan for his struggle for their rights.

Former district nazim Jehanzeb Khan said the ANP leadership would uphold the ideology of Bacha Khan and Wali Khan.
