LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Feb 4: An official of Khyber Rifles was electrocuted in Torkham on Friday. Naik Mohammad Iqbal Bangash was reportedly repairing a faulty electric wire at his residence when he received an electric shock.

As a result, he died on the spot. Later, his body was taken to his native town.

POPPY: Authorities in Landi Kotal issued a stern warning to Loe Shalman residents after reports of poppy cultivation in Prang Dara and Kum Shalman.

The authorities had earlier claimed to have destroyed the standing poppy crop in the area.

Loe Shalman elders were called to the Landi Kotal tehsil office on Friday after the local authorities were tipped off by an informer that poppy was being cultivated on a vast tract of land in the area.

The Landi Kotal assistant political agent asked the area elders and councillors to unconditionally destroy the poppy crop. The elders and councillors assured the administration of their support in this regard.
