LAHORE: The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) is opening 113 more schools in Cholistan areas.

Governor Balighur Rehman inaugurated the Literate Cholistan Project-II at the Governor House here on Wednesday.

“I’m happy to see that the PEF is opening new schools in remote and backward areas of Cholistan where children are deprived of education. The PEF has emerged as a ray of new hope in the desert areas of Cholistan,” the governor said, adding that these schools seemed to have relatively few resources, but he believed that these would make a big difference in the lives of children belonging to the backward and far-flung areas.

He said that education was the way through which nations developed. He said moral training along with education was very important.

“High moral values, including honesty and truthfulness, should be inculcated in the youth. An educated person neither believes nor spreads what he hears without researching,” he said.

He said there was a time when Muslims made a name for themselves in education, science, and research all over the world.

“But today we are lagging behind in research. We have to make joint efforts to bring improvement in the education sector. The best investment is in the education and training of children and youth.”

The governor said the PEF funding and stipend for the children should be increased.

He said that after 2018, many ongoing public welfare projects were shelved. He said that the out-of-school children were a major problem. Until 2018 the number of out-of-school children had gradually decreased, but after 2018, this number had increased alarmingly, leaving him concerned.

The governor, the PEF and other such organisations that were doing good work should highlight their work on social media so that people know that positive work is also being done in our society.
