LOWER DIR: A youth died while participating in the physical fitness test for recruitment in the police department held at the University of Malakand ground here on Friday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said a rescue team present on the occasion immediately provided first aid to the youth, Rahatullah of Samarbagh, when he fell unconscious. Later, he was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Chakdara, in critical condition. He breathed his last when was being taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Batkhela.

Meanwhile, a rescue official said a total of 34 youths were provided with first aid during the two-day physical test for recruitment in the police. The official said most of the victims were suffering from vomiting, high blood pressure, chest pain and breathing disorder.

BY-POLLS: Over 240 policemen have been deputed to perform security duty during the local government by-elections scheduled for Aug 27 (Sunday).

The district administration has also imposed Section 144 on public gatherings, carrying of arms, vehicles with tinted glass and pillion-riding for August 26 and 27.

District police officer Ziauddin Ahmad and deputy commissioner Iftikhar Ahmad visited different polling stations and checked the security arrangements.
