BAHAWALPUR: The administration of district Lodhran has established two tent villages to provide temporary shelter and other basic facilities to the evacuated people from the tehsils of Lodhran and Kahrore Pucca, facing flood threat from the river Sutlej.

Such a situation has arisen in the area after three decades.

According to Lodhran Deputy Commissioner Abdul Rauf Mahar, the tent villages set up at the sprawling grounds of the Government High School Haveli Naseer Khan and Government High School Bahawalgarh were in addition to the 24 relief camps out of which 12 were established at the government schools.

Inspecting the tent villages on Monday, Multan Commissioner Aamir Khattak appreciated the district administration and asked it to increase number of such tent camps for the affected people. The DC briefed the commissioner on the flood situation and the relief and rescue measures in the district.

Lodhran Assistant Commissioner Ashraf Saleh said the red alert to the people in the area had already been issued and the population of the threatened rural areas had been advised to vacate their houses.

He said the police and Rescue 1122 officials also helped the people in evacuation from their houses and shifting their belongings to safer places.

He said the evacuated people would be served with meals while their animals would be provided with fodder at the relief camps.

Mr Saleh said the tent villages were ready to accommodate the evacuated people and their families. Besides, the officials of the health and livestock departments had also been posted in the relief camps to look after the ailing people, including women and children, and vaccinate their herds.

ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two persons on the charges of visa fraud and extortion.

Muhammad Farooq and Faisal Mubarak had complained to the authority that Muhammad Iqbal and Abual Kalam had extorted Rs900,000 from them and did fraud with them in the name of visa.
