HYDERABAD: Strong winds caused three 11kV poles of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) to collapse in Gari Khata sub-division on Monday, causing disruption in power supply to several parts of the city. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incidents.
The poles, including one mounted with a transformer, fell on Risala road. First one pole fell after high velocity winds triggered imbalance in wires attached between two poles, causing two more poles to fall on the main road, said Gari Khata SDO Aqib Shah.
Before technical staff of Hesco and police arrived, locals closed the road for traffic to save people from the fallen wires.
Hesco spokesman blamed high velocity winds for causing faults in the system which eventually led to suspension of power supply. Electricity was not available in the area when the poles had fallen, he said.
Electricity wires of Public school feeder also fell on roads causing suspension in electricity supply in the areas connected with the feeder while electricity continued hide and seek in other areas of Latifabad where 17 hours long breakdown was reported in unit-5 and there had been no power in unit-9 since morning till 9pm.
