KARACHI, Feb 1: Notices were issued to the State for Feb 4 by Haq Nawaz Baloch, judge Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday in an application moved by Imtiaz Shaikh, facing trial in an alleged kidnapping for ransom case.

Shaukat Zubedi, counsel for accused Imtiaz Shaikh, submitted that his client fears for his life and due to security reasons was unable to attend the proceedings of case against him.

The judge after hearing the counsel issued notice to the state. Imtiaz and co-accused, including Atique Ahmed Siddiqui and Mehfooz are facing charges of kidnapping Umer Iqbal son of Zafar Iqbal, a businessmen. The boy was allegedly released after paying ransom.

Imran Mateen filed the petition alleging that he has a money dispute with one Shuja Khan. FIA officer Abdul Shakoor was intimidating and harassing the petitioner for paying the disputed amount, the counsel for the petitioner submitted before the bench, saying that the matter was of civil nature, but his client was threatened of criminal proceedings. The bench, hearing the counsel for petitioner, issued notice to the respondent for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.—APP
