RAWALPINDI: Police arrested brother of former federal minister of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Farrukh Jamal Afridi under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for 15 days.

According to sources, a police party conducted a raid on the residence of Farrukh Jamal Afridi in Westridge, smashed the doors and took him with them.

The detention of the brother of the PTI leader came about after the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema issued an order for the detention of Farrukh Jamal Afridi for a period of 15 days in central jail Adiala Rawalpindi.

The detention orders for Farrukh Jamal Afridi were issued by the City Police Officer Rawalpindi following report of SHO Westridge that the accused Jamal is a member of political organization and instigating/planning to organise unlawful assembly/commit violence, deliver unlawful speeches to cause damage to human life and public/private properties.

The notification said that the CPO had recommended that in order to prevent him in such a manner from his unlawful activities and acting in a manner prejudicial to the public safety or the maintenance of public order, he may be detained for a period of 90 days in the public interest.

The district intelligence committee, in its meeting held on Monday July 31, 2023 also supported the stance of police department in this regard.

Following the police department and DIC committee’s recommendation the DC Rawalpindi issued the detention orders of Farrukh Jamal Afridi for 15 days.

The DC Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema has also issued detention orders of PTI leader and former Federal Minister Shehryar Afridi – brother of Farrukh Jamal Afridi – for a period of 15 days from the date of entrance in Central Jail Adiala. The detention order of Shehryar Afridi was issued on July 25, 2023.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf strongly condemned the detention of Shehryar Afridi’s brother’s Farrukh Jamal Afridi from Rawalpindi during a late night raid at his residence.
