ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: Pakistan Muslim League-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has called for efforts to promote peace, brotherhood and tolerance in the society and to transform Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state.

According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, the PML-N leader said the advent of the new Hijri must be taken as a starting point towards this goal.

In his message to the nation on the first of Moharram, he hoped that the new year would bring blessings for the Pakistani people and the entire Muslim world.

Mr Sharif said the year had begun with good tidings, particularly for the PML-N supporters, adding that God willing, “we will soon restore to the people their prestige and right of governing.’’
