PESHAWAR: Unidentified gunmen killed an official of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission in the limits of the Shahpur police station here on Monday morning, officials said.

They said Arshad Khan, a resident of Charsadda district, who was serving as the commission’s director examination, was travelling to his office along with his driver when he came under attack.

Aftab Khan, an official at the Shahpur police station, said Ismail Khan, the slain official’s driver, had filed a case with the police against unknown persons.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the attack on a police compound in Bara tehsil of the Khyber tribal district on July 20 increased to four as a critically injured policeman lost his life in a hospital here on Monday.

A statement issued from the Khyber Police Lines in Shah Kas area of Jamrud said that constable Abdul Hadi, who had sustained critical injuries in the suicide attack, succumbed to his injuries on Monday. It said his funeral prayers were offered at the police lines with the Khyber district police officer, SSP investigations, commandant Bara Rifles, officials of the district administration and notables of the area in attendance.

Three policemen had lost their lives on the spot while fighting the two suicide bombers at the Tehsil Compound Bara.
