MIRAMSHAH, Jan 30: One paramilitary soldier was killed and nine others wounded in an explosion in Mubarek Shahi, North Waziristan Agency, on Monday, officials said. The explosion took place when paramilitary troops were escorting a military convoy, heading from Razmak sub-division to Bannu via Aesha checkpost. A helicopter was providing air cover to the convoy.
As the convoy reached Mubarek Shahi area a remote controlled device went off, damaging a vehicle badly. Ten soldiers were wounded and were taken to a hospital.
One of the wounded soldiers later died at the hospital.
Officials of the political administration had detained 15 people and impounded several vehicles under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.
Officials said that authorities had increased security at various checkposts in the area and asked people to hand over those responsible for the blast.
TWO ROUNDED UP: An ISPR spokesman said that the security forces immediately launched a search and sweep operation in the area and rounded up two suspected militants. “They were hiding in a dugout well,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that the militants looked local from their appearance but were turned over to the intelligence agencies for further investigation. The operation was concluded last light, he added.
He said that a paramilitary soldier, Asad Ali, was killed while twelve others were wounded, two of them seriously who were immediately evacuated for medical treatment.
