ABBOTTABAD, Jan 29: The NWFP government will provide sugar, cooking oil and other food items to affected people in earthquake-hit areas not covered by the World Food Programme.

According to sources, the federal relief commissioner has approved the plan to provide food items in tent villages through the regional relief commissioner to share the burden of the WFP, which is supplying food to more than 500,000 earthquake survivors in tents and far-flung areas, specially in Naran, Kaghan and Alai.

The food supply airlifted from here is being delivered through the district governments.

The NWFP government has announced that it will wind up tent villages by March 31 and provide food to the earthquake survivors after that from stores to be set up in different areas.

The provincial government is providing flour donated by Turkey to the survivors through district governments and union council nazims.

The local governments have been asked to submit detailed distribution plans as complaints have been received that flour was distributed in all the union councils of Abbottabad district, whereas only 10 of those were affected by the earthquake.
