Five tourists killed in two accidents

GILGIT: Five tourists were killed and 13 injured in two traffic accidents in Hunza on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122, a tourist van was going to Khunjerab via Karokoram Highway with 14 people, including women and children, on board.

The vehicle fell into a ravine near Nasirabad Bridge as a result of which three persons were killed and 11 injured. Rescue 1122 and local police reached the spot and started rescue operation. The injured were shifted to a nearby government hospital. The tourists had come from Punjab.

In another incident, a vehicle crashed into a mountain in Dongdas Nagar, killing two persons and injuring two other. The occupants of the vehicle were also from Punjab.

The Rescue 1122 team shifted the injured tourists to nearby hospital in Aliabad.

Hunza Assistant Commissioner Hussain Shah told Dawn that such accidents occurred due to reckless driving by outsiders not familiar with mountain roads.

He advised tourists to drive carefully on such roads.
