SHIKARPUR, Jan 28: An FIR was registered against 50 policemen, union council nazims, political leaders and other people at the New Faujdari police station here on Friday night.

Anwar Ali, son of Gul Mohammad Shaikh, resident of Chingi graveyard colony, had field an application in the court of the district and sessions judge that two months ago, on the pretext of arresting some absconders involved in an attack on the Shaikh farm, a police party and some private persons had raided his house on directives of Chaudhry Mohammad Ali, secretary to the Sindh chief minister.

He alleged that they had opened fire which had created panic in the house and resulted into the death of his daughter, Mukhtaran, 5.

He also alleged that the policemen and other people had robbed cash, jewellery, a television set and cattle during the raid.

He said the then SHO had refused to register his FIR when he had visited the police station.

After hearing the application, district and sessions judge Raja Sohrab Khan ordered the SHO to register the FIR.

Those nominated in the FIR included Mohammad Ali Chaudhry, secretary to the chief minister, then DPO, Pir Fareed Jan Sarhandi, SP, investigation, Farooq Ahmad Jamali, then TPO, Shikarpur, Taj Mohammad Noonari, DSP, headquarters, Anwar Ali Gopang, SI Abdul Hameed Khakhrani, New Faujdari SHO Abdul Rauf Sohrani, district PPP president Agha Taimur Khan Pathan, Shahid Ali Pathan, Mehran Khan Pathan, Nazir Khan Pathan, Shams Khan Pathan, Raja Khan Pathan, Nazim Jahan Wah, Lal Bux Khan Pathan, nazim of the Main Saheb union council and Abdul Nabi Pathan.

HUNGER STRIKE: Responding to a call of the central leadership, activists of the Sindh People’s Youth-SB observed a token hunger strike at the Lakhi Gate tower chowk here on Saturday to protest against the Kalabagh dam and the operation in Balochistan.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a bandit and recovered a Kalashnikov and bullets from his possession after an encounter near the Chhuttal Shah graveyard on the Dakhan-Bado link road on Saturday.

Police constable Ghulam Nabi Unnar was injured in the encounter.

The bandit arrested was identified as Ranjho Chandio. His accomplices escaped.
