Furniture exports to UK double

Published January 28, 2006

LONDON, Jan 27: Pakistan’s furniture exports to the United Kingdom have more than doubled from £3.718 million in 2002 to £8.405 million in 2004, said Pakistan’s High Commissioner Dr Maleeha Lodhi at the conclusion of a three-day International Furniture Fair.

A press release issued by the Pakistan High Commission said Dr Lodhi visited the fair in which several leading Pakistani furniture companies participated.

Appreciating workmanship of Pakistani furniture and handicrafts, Dr Lodhi said more Pakistani companies should participate in international fairs as their products evoke interest of the international buyers.

The press release said that Pakistan’s participation in the furniture fair had been a regular feature since 2001. The main items of furniture exported by Pakistan to Britain were made of solid wood and include tables, chairs, stools, video and audio racks, and bed-side tables.

The High Commission said the officials coordinated the participation of a number of companies from Pakistan in the fair including AMZ Corporation, Karachi, Al-Hadid Trading, Karachi, Stone Craft Industry, Karachi, Fahad Impex, Karachi and Crescent Handicrafts, Karachi.
