KARACHI: The first doctorate (PhD) on the political poetry of the famous revolutionary poet of the subcontinent, Josh Malihabadi, has been awarded to Syed Jafar Askari, a senior journalist and poet, by the University of Karachi.

Mr Askari, who is also serving as the media adviser at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), has completed his PhD entitled the “Political Poetry of Josh Malihabadi: A Sociological Study of its Impacts On the Independence Movement in the Subcontinent,” from the Department of Sociology.

He earned the degree under the supervision of Dr Kaneez Fatima Mamdani (sociology) and poet and critic Dr Hilal Naqvi.
