BAHAWALPUR: Renowned Seraiki poet Shakir Shujaabadi was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, in recognition of his services to Seraiki poetry.

The award ceremony was held at Ghotvi Hall, IUB’s Abbasia Campus. Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Athar Mahboob said it was a matter of honour for the university.

He said the IUB would also award the honorary degree of PhD to Shakir Shujaabadi.

Bahawalpur Commissioner Dr Ehtesham Anwar presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Shujaabadi and termed him a symbol of Seraiki Wasaib. Faculty of Arts and Languages Dean and Saraiki Department Chairman Prof Dr Jawed Hassan Chandio said Shujaabadi had become the voice of not only Saraiki Wasaib, but also the oppressed people of this country. He said despite illness Shujaabadi never lost courage.
