LAHORE: Three armed men shot an injured man dead in the emergency ward of the Mayo Hospital here on Saturday.

The brash murder in the crowded emergency department of a major hospital created panic among doctors, nurses, patients and their attendants present there. However, some hospital staffers and guards overpowered the armed men and handed them over to the police arriving at the scene.

According to initial investigation, one of the attackers, identified as Boota, belongs to Sheikhupura.

A police official says the murdered man, Ijaz alias Jaju, was brought to the hospital with bullet injuries he sustained when his rivals opened fire at him. He said the doctors were attending the injured man when suddenly three armed men entered the ward and shot Ijaz thrice, leaving him dead on the spot.

The attackers attempted to flee, but failed as security guards locked the emergency ward’s doors, he said, adding that soon after the firing incident doctors and nurses resumed their work.
