LAHORE: Punjab University’s Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT) organised the national programming competition ‘PUCon’23’ on its premises.
The PUCon’23 featured five competitive programming events, including Speed Programming, Web Hackathon, Mobile App Development, Game Design, Artificial Intelligence and Capture the Flag (CTF), and two e-gaming events, Tekken and FIFA.
Approximately 200 teams, consisting of over 500 participants from various higher education institutes in Pakistan, took part in the competition.
In the competitive programming competition, the FCIT secured the first and third positions, while the Information Technology University took the second place.
In the Web Hackathon, ITU secured the first position, and FCIT secured the runner-up position. In Mobile App Development, FCIT achieved both the winner and runner-up positions.
In Artificial Intelligence, FCIT secured the first place, while FAST secured the second position. In Game Design, the collaborative team of LGS & FCIT secured the 1st position, and Lahore Garrison University secured the 2nd position.
In the cyber-security event ‘Capture the Flag (CTP)’, FAST, Air University, and UET Lahore secured the first, second, and third positions respectively.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood commended the efforts of the organising team and emphasized that quality graduates would contribute to Pakistan’s advancement in the IT sector exports. He urged the continuation of such technology-oriented events with the technical and financial support of the software industry.
The chief organiser and secretary of PUCon’23, Prof Dr Engr Shahzad Sarwar and Abdul Mateen expressed their gratitude to all participants for their unwavering support in organising the programming competition.
ENTRANCE TEST: Students aspiring for admissions to undergraduate programmes at the Punjab University can register until June 9.
A total of seven different exams will be conducted for all undergraduate programsme.
VC Dr Khalid Mahmood announced that the PU Undergraduate entrance test would take place in major cities across the country. He said the entrance test was mandatory for undergraduate admissions at PU, and thousands of students had already registered for it.
He also mentioned that for admissions to the PU, 25pc of marks were reserved for the written test, and candidates could refer to www.pu.edu.pk for eligibility criteria and further details.
The PU-E test will be for the pre-engineering discipline, PU-M test for the pre-medical discipline, PU-AHS test for Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences disciplines, PU-CSP test for ICS with Physics combination, PU-CSS test for ICS with Statistics discipline, PU-GS test for General Science discipline, and PU-COM test for Commerce discipline will be conducted.
