PESHAWAR / BAJAUR: Two security personnel embraced martyrdom and two militants were killed in an exchange of fire bet­ween security forces and militants in Bannu district on Saturday, according to military’s media wing.

A statement issued by Inter-Services Public Rela­tion read that fire exchange took place in the Jani Khel area of the district, adding that the security forces effectively engaged the militants’ loc­a­tion killing two militants.

How­ever, Naib Sube­dar Ghulam Murtaza, hailing from Bahawalpur and Havi­l­dar Mohammad Anwar, hai­ling from Sialkot, embraced martyrdom during the intense exchange of fire. It said the area was being combed by security forces.

Bajaur blast

Earlier, two people were killed when a truck carrying construction materials was hit by a remote-controlled explosion in the Mohmand area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district.

Rescue 1122 and police officials told Dawn the blast took place at about 5pm on the Shagoo-Ban­dagai road in the Gatki area, some 18km from Khar district headquarters. The remote-controlled blast occurred when a mini-truck carrying sand was passing through. The two men on board were severely wounded and died on the way to District Headqua­rters Hospital in Bajaur.

The victims were identified as Sher Wali Khan, the driver; and Gul Azam, the vehicle’s owner. After medico-legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the families of the deceased in the Mohmand area.

DPO Nazeer Khan confirmed to Dawn that it was a remote-controlled bomb blast.
