ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed approached police for registration of a case over a raid at his Islamabad residence in the small hours of Wednesday, reliable sources told Dawn.

According to a complaint lodged by him with Kohsar police station, Sheikh Rashid said a contingent comprising 80 police and Rangers officials “broke into my house” in Islamabad’s F-7/4 sector at 3am on Wednesday, damaging household goods.

The contingent was led by a superintendent of police, a sub-divisional police officer and the station house officer of Kohsar, the former minister said.

“They searched the house and inquired about me,” he added. “They tortured two of my servants, Mohsin and Ashfaq Ahmed.”

Mohsin suffered fracture to his hand while Ashfaq sustained injuries on his head, according to the complaint.

The raiding party took away a bulletproof vehicle and a licensed gun, Sheikh Rashid alleged.

He said he was not present in the house due to the post-May 9 crackdown against supporters of PTI chief Imran Khan.

The former minister alleged that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had ordered the raid on his house.

A police official confirmed that the complaint had been lodged, but that so far no action was taken.

“Senior officials have been informed about Sheikh Rashid’s complaint, but so far no orders whatsoever have been issued,” the official said.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
