Asim registers third victory

KARACHI, Jan 23: Pakistan number two Asim Shafiq maintained his winning sequence when he blasted Inam Gul in straight sets to record his third win in Davis Cup tennis trials at Karachi Gymkhana hard courts on Monday.

Asim looked in best form as he raced to 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 victory in less than an hour. He displayed attacking game and dominated the match with his forceful winners.

In another match of the round robin league trials, Nomi Qamar defeated Muhammad Shafiq 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.

In juniors group Yasir Khan beat Hidayatullah 6-0, 6-0; Omer Babar beat Tanveer Ashiq 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 after a hard-fought battle lasting two hours and 20 minutes.—APP
