LIBRARY AND IRONY: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), which is a regulatory body that looks after institutions of higher learning in the country, has a library in Islamabad which lacks adequate resources.

There is only one table and 10 chairs for the visiting students. Moreover, there are no quality books and recent journals. There should be an environment good enough to facilitate the students with internet connections and technical assistance. At least the HEC should take care of the irony inherent in the situation as it stands today. A regulatory body of higher learning is managing a library that is not good enough for even lower learning. The HEC needs to live up to its name, if nothing else.

SONGS IN BUSES: The use of loud music and songs in public transport is unbearable and deafening. It can distract the driver and may cause an accident. Besides, the taste of music differs from person to person. A driver’s choice of songs might not be pleasing to everyone. Some drivers play less-than-decent songs in wagons and buses which leads to fights between the passengers, who ask the staff to stop such songs, and the latter who ask them to mind their own business.

There must be some rules to stop the use of loud music in public transport.

SHORTAGE OF MEDICINES: Ever since we started hearing of an impending hike in the prices of medicines in the country, there is a sudden shortage of medicines in the market. I went to a medical store recently to buy a very common medicine, but could not find it even after visiting several stores. The shortage is creating a lot of problems for the people. Many medicines are not available in the market. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) needs to pay heed to the matter on an urgent basis.
