LAHORE: The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan has extended its jurisdiction to award affiliations to the public and private colleges in the whole province. Earlier, it could award affiliation to the colleges only in two divisions – Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Governor Balighur Rehman chaired a meeting of the Senate at the BZU, which made the decision on Monday.

BZU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Shah, registrar Zubair Khan, the members of the Syndicate and the deans and chairmen of the departments were present.

The meeting also approved the new admission policy-2023 while the chancellor/governor directed the administration to devise the percentage of admissions under the new policy. He also directed the university to devise a policy to give admissions to A and O level students and that a Syndicate meeting should be held to approve the new policy.

The meeting also approved establishing the Meezan Centre for Islamic Finance in the Commerce Department of the university. The governor directed the administration to make the centre operational as soon as possible and take measures to convince the private bank to provide funding for it.

The Senate also approved establishing a Quran forum at the university and approaching the Syndicate for approval. It deferred the matter of establishing another centre at the Urdu Department and sought early completion of the Sufism Department being set up with the funds from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The governor also directed the administration to work closely with the Punjab Finance Department for approval of the disparity allowance of the employees of university from BPS-1 to 19.
