GUJRANWALA, Jan 20: Another human smuggler escaped from police custody while two constables guarding him also disappeared from the scene here on Friday. Malik Sheraz, wanted by Punjab and Balochistan FIA in about half a dozen human smuggling cases, had been arrested by FIA’s Gujranwala circle a few weeks ago from his house in Lalazar Colony, Gujrat. He was being treated for his leg fracture at the local DHQ Hospital. Constables Ehsanullah and Imdad Husain of the Civil Lines police station were deputed there for guard duty.

On Friday, SHO Saifullah visited the hospital to check them, but he found the accused and policemen nowhere.

A case has been registered against accused Malik Sheraz and the two constables. The constables were also placed under suspension.

Meanwhile, FIA assistant director Chaudhry Kamran Atta alleged that policemen were involved in the escape of the accused.

It may be mentioned that the two human traffickers had also escaped from the police custody a few days back.

SUSPENDED: The two constables of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), who were booked on charges of an escape of two human smugglers from lock-up some two days ago, were suspended from service and issued a show-cause notice on Friday.

Reports said an FIA raiding team caught Altaf and Irfan and detained them in the office where constables Rafiq and Nazir were deployed for security. But both the accused escaped at night when the constables were asleep.

FIA deputy director Naeem Bharoka got registered FIRs against the constables and suspended them from service.

REMAND: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Friday granted a seven-day physical remand of an accused involved in killing of eight Ahmadis in Mandi Bahauddin.

Reports said that accused Amir detained in Karachi jail was brought here by police and produced him before court for physical remand. Later, Mandi Bahauddin police took him for interrogation.

Police had arrested some two dozen suspects in the murder case of eight Ahmadis in Mandi Bahauddin, but they all were released after declaring them innocent in the investigation.

ABSOLVED: Three suspects were absolved of the charge of killing a Shia leader here on Friday.

Reports said police arrested Syed Ashfaq Ali Shah, Nusrat and Wajahat Tabassam on charges of killing Syed Ali Raza Asad Abidi a week ago. But they were found innocent during investigation.

However, the police arrested three more accused — Shahzad, Adeel Butt and Hamad — following their involvement in the murder case the same day.

DISMISSED: Nine teachers were terminated while annual increment of 14 others were stopped for two years for corruption and absence from duty by the district education officer (female) here on Friday.

Reports said the DEO on complaints paid surprise visits to various primary and secondary girl schools in and around the city and found these teachers involved in corruption and absent from duty.
