LARKANA: Police on Thursday booked a former adviser to Sindh chief minister and over 20 others for holding a jirga (private court) to settle murder of a man and imposing fine on alleged killers.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Alam Abro registered a case on behalf of state at Kanga police station against Mir Mohammad Amin Mengal, former adviser to Sindh chief minister and over 20 others under Sections 419, 173, 117 and 148 PPC for holding the jirga, said police sources.

The sources said that Abdul Rasool and Saifullah Brohi, who were in detention at Sachal police station in connection with another FIR disclosed during interrogation that they had hatched a plot to kidnap Ali Ahmed Brohi, 23, on charges of ‘honour’ and abducted him at coaches stand on Jan 27. He was later killed and his body was thrown into Rice Canal.

On March 26, a jirga was held at the house of Mir Mohammad Amin Mengal where he imposed Rs5 million fine on the accused party for killing Brohi and throwing his body into the canal.

However, Noor Bibi, mother of the victim and her two sons Mansoor and Abubkar, did not agree to the verdict and left under protest.

The FIR said Mengal along with others had convened an illegal jirga, imposed fine on the accused and pressurized the aggrieved party to receive the fine money, which was crime under Sections 219, 193, 117 and 147 PPC. Therefore, a case was registered against them on behalf of state, said the FIR.
