HYDERABAD, Jan 18: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed consultants of the president’s Hyderabad Development Package to speed up the ground work of prioritized development schemes to ensure utilization of Rs1 billion available with the district government by the end of June.

He was presiding over a meeting to review development works under the president’s package at the district nazim secretariat on Wednesday.

The nazim said the district government was giving priority to resolving sewerage and water supply problems.

He directed project consultants to complete a survey of sewerage works in the talukas of Qasimabad and Latifabad within one week so that related schemes could be approved within shortest possible time. He also directed them to design the capacity of sewerage lines according to present and running growth of population of each area and assign separate teams for each development scheme.

He said the consultants should hire services of indigenous experts to have quick technical information and speed up development work.

Mr Jamil directed to complete documentation work of installation of two filter plants of eight million gallon capacity, one each in Hala Naka and Paretabad, and ensure tendering of the same within one month.

He also stressed the need for uninterrupted existing system of water supply and sewerage and directed the consultants to issue tenders for installation of generators as an alternative source of energy at each pumping station of Wasa within two weeks.

He said that in addition to sewerage and water supply schemes, development work of solid waste disposal should also be expedited because it was related with sewerage.

The nazim also directed that the development work on 26 road schemes, construction of a flyover at the Railway crossing in Latifabad-7 and a pedestrian bridge on the National Highway in front of the Zubaida College should also be taken in hand.

Stressing the need for close coordination among stakeholders, he directed the HDA management to remain in touch with the project consultants and go through inception reports of development works submitted by them. He asked the management to provide technical and geographical information about the existing network of drainage and water supply systems to the consultants.

He informed the meeting that he was in touch with higher authorities to ensure the federal government released funds of the president’s package.

HDA director-general Tahir Ahmad said survey reports about water supply and drainage systems with future needs and the existing system had been provided to the consultants, adding that further information and technical assistance would be provided to them as and when required.

District Naib Nazim Zaffar Rajput, MPA Syed Arshad Shah, MPA Naeem Ishtiaq, Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain, Hyderabad City Taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar, District Development Committee member Mubeen Shaikh and others were also present at the meeting.
