KARACHI: A huge fire broke out in an industrial unit in New Karachi on Wednesday, said police and rescue services officials.

They added that the firefighting operation was continued late in the night and there were no reports of casualty.

The Gabol Town police said that the fire erupted in Usman & Sons Bedsheet Company in Sector-16-B located on Shehla Raza Road.

Area SHO Saqlain told Dawn that the blaze had erupted in a multi-storey building of the factory at around 7:30am. He said due to magnitude of the blaze, fire engines from across the city were called in.

Till late in the night, 10 fire engines were taking part in the firefighting.

He said the four floors of the six-storey building had been cleared and work to douse the fire on the remaining two floors was still under way.

The officer said that initial reports suggested that a short circuit caused the fire.
