INSECURITY AND WEAPONS: The second amendment to the constitution of the United States allows a citizen to carry a weapon for personal security. Considering the rising incidents of street crimes, Pakistan needs a similar amendment to empower its citizens. Helpless, law-abiding civilians live under constant fear of getting mugged, robbed or even killed. The elite live in expensive shelters and roam around in bullet-proof vehicles, while the lesser mortals face dacoits, mobs and heinous crimes. The government should wake up and control the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

Till that happens, let the people have legal weapons to protect themselves.

GRADES FOR SALE: The corruption prevailing in the education boards across Sindh is an open secret. Everyone knows. Outlets in boards are run by influential mafias in connivance with staff members, offering good grades against the ‘right’ amount. Therefore, the quality of education in the province remains pathetic. Recently, even a senior official of the board in Larkana conceded that good grades were being sold through kickbacks. The policymakers should do something to save the education system.

EXPANDING THE SCOPE: The Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducts Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) for the posts of assistant commissioner and section officer, while it excludes many other posts. It can take a cue from its counterpart in Sindh. The BPSC needs to include other posts in its CCE bracket as well.

TURKIYE EARTHQUAKE: The recent earthquake in Turkiye was tragic. The bravery of the rescue teams and the efforts of the local authorities deserve appreciation. Pakistan also pitched in with relief goods. In times of tragedy, it is important that we come together.
