PROFITEERING: Just as is the case every year, the prices of eatables have skyrocketed in Ramazan. Tomatoes, which were sold at Rs40 per kilogram, are now being sold at Rs100, and onions, which were Rs100 per kg, are now available for Rs200. This price hike has created troubles for the daily wagers. Certainly, a common labourer who earns Rs600 daily cannot feed his family amid such soaring prices. While other coun- tries offer discounts during holy and festive months, retailers in Pakistan consider such occasions to be the best time for profiteering. They should not take undue advantage of the holy month.

SASTA BAZAARS: With the arrival of Ramazan, a sharp rise is observed in the prices of vegetables and food items. The government has failed to control the prices, and to implement its official rate list, allowing the retailers to have fun at the cost of the consumers. The government should set up ‘Sasta Bazaars’ offering fruits and food at low prices. This will provide relief to the people, and will force the mafia to reduce the prices as well.

GREAT DAY: This year, the first day of Ramazan fell on March 23, which happens to be the Pakistan Day. Politicians across the divide should take it as a hint to start working for the sake of Pakistan through unity and by setting aside personal differences.

TURBAT LIBRARIES: The city of Turbat has a serious dearth of libraries. With a population of over 200,000, there is only one proper library which is in a bad shape for long. Libraries play a crucial role in the development of a community. Due to the lack of libraries, students are missing out on the resources and support they need to succeed in life. The government should set up more libraries in Turbat.
