KARACHI: Rescue workers on Sunday retrieved the body of a labourer from the rubble of an under-construction factory that collapsed near Murtaza Chowrangi in Korangi on Saturday.

Six labourers — Ashif Husain, 35, Adnan, 32, Abdul Haq, 30, Mohammed Ramzan, 24, Mohammed Zaman, 44, and Nisar, 30 — suffered injuries when the roof of the factory caved in during the shuttering work.

The rescue workers continued their search and removal of debris and in the afternoon they retrieved the body of Zubair Ali, 24, from the rubble.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for completing medico-legal formalities.

A spokesperson for the Sindh health minister said in a statement that six ambulances of Rescue 1122 were sent to the scene. She said that six labourers were rescued and given emergency treatment on the spot. Later, they were shifted to the JPMC.
