PESHAWAR: The district administration on Sunday conducted raids in different areas of the provincial metropolis and arrested 20 butchers involved in selling beef at excessive rates.

Taking notice of the complaints lodged by the people regarding sale of beef at exorbitant price since the start of the fasting month, deputy commissioner Shah Fahad directed the officials to take stern action against the profiteers.

Following the directives of the DC, a raiding team led by assistant commissioner Syed Zainab Naqvi inspected various markets in Board Bazaar, Tehkal, the University Road and Hayatabad Phase-III.

She found a total of 20 butchers guilty of violating the government-approved prices and sent them behind bars after registering cases against them.

A contingent of police also accompanied by the raiding team of the district administration to avoid any untoward happening.
