LAHORE, Jan 15: The lambardari system is being re-activated in the province for improving revenue collection, better liaison between rural population and the government as well as collection of data about health facilities and epidemics in villages. This was stated by revenue minister Gul Hameed Khan Rokhri while presiding over a meeting at the Board of Revenue here on Sunday.

He said the government had decided to give incentives to lambardars for making the system more effective. In colony districts, some 12.5 acres of state land would be given to each lambardar on lease for cultivation while the amount of panjhotra would be doubled in districts which had no state land.

The minister said the land given to a lambardar for cultivation would be withdrawn after his death or in case of his removal from the post and would be given to the new incumbent.

He said lambardars played an effective role in better coordination between the government departments and the rural people. Collection of government dues and revenue would also increase manifold by involving local lambardars in the process.

It was also their duty to inform the competent authority about epidemics or outbreak of any disease in villages or breach in canals and water channels, the minister said..
