MIRAMSHAH, Jan 14: One tribesman was killed and two children in his home sustained injuries when paramilitary forces mounted an offensive in retaliation against a rocket attack on a check-post in Sarbandki area late on Friday night.

Eyewitnesses said that 50 rocket shells landed in the villages of Chashma, Qutubkhel and Sarbandki and caused damage to several houses there.

The victim, Peer Mohammad, was sleeping in his room when a rocket hit his house, killing him on the spot. Two children of the family were injured in the attack.

Sources said that earlier an FC check-post in Sarbandki area came under rocket attack around midnight on Friday. The paramilitary forces retaliated against the attack and fired rockets and heavy weapons in the same direction that the rocket attacks had been mounted, sources said.

On Saturday morning, residents of the affected areas demonstrated against the attack and blocked the main road for traffic.
