Davenport to open first day matches

MELBOURNE, Jan 14: Women’s top seed Lindsay Davenport will open play on Rod Laver Arena against Australian wildcard Casey Dellacqua on the opening day of the Australian Open here on Monday.

The match will be followed by Argentine fourth seed David Nalbandian against Thailand’s Danai Udomchoke with 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova taking on German Sandra Kloesel.

In the first night session of the championship, defending women’s champion Serena Williams, seeded 13, plays China’s top player Li Na in their first meeting. World number two Andy Roddick takes on Swiss Michael Lammer in the late match on centre court.—AFP
