KARACHI, Jan 14: Four-year-old filly, Savabeel, who opened the year on a winning note, is fancied to lift Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah Cup and make it two in a row when the Winter Gymkhana race meeting starts at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by M. R. Hussain, the filly is pitted against seven contenders in the seven furlongs fifth race which is restricted for Pakistani horses in Class 111 and 1V.

In her last outing on Jan 1 that coincided with the New Year, she won in convincing fashion by 10 lengths with jockey Mujahid Ali in the saddle. If one goes by form and fitness, she should land the cup.

With Christmas and New Year Cup already under her belt, Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara’s mare, Bang On Target, and Faisal Farooq’s bay horse, Al Faris, are also in contention but would battle it out for places.

However, Pir Pagara’s Chaleswan Chur is poised to win the Eid Milan Cup by making amends for his three consecutive losses.

Drawn in a pack of 14 aspirants in the six furlongs race, he should be chased by Fakhr-e-Sanghar and Fly To The Sky.

A card of eight races including the two cups has been chalked out. Race begins at 12.30 noon.

Nine-year-old bay horse, Laurel, should win the opener. He should be followed by Royal Beauty and Taneez.

Victory Symbol, a four-year-old colt, who had to be content with second slot behind Al Zarrar by half a length last Sunday, is tipped to win the second race which had 15 aspirants in fray.

Lucky Step and Yes Naeem should follow Victory Symbol for the following two places.

After being placed third in the last outing, Jawan Bakht is likely to dictate terms in the next race. Mare Sweet Grandy and filly Miss Maree should finish second and third.

Desperado, owned by Nasrullah, who failed to attain a place in the last three meetings, should run away with the fourth race. However, he had to overcome New Ferrari and Lucky View among 18 contenders.

Having grabbed two third places, 11-yerar-old mare, Sonia, should make amends by outpacing 14 opponents’ in the sixth race. She should be chased by Gold Disc and Al Faris.

Syed Ismail Shah’s four-year-old filly, Voo Doo Doll should overcome her bad patch by annexing the concluding race.

Leopard and Queen Of Sanghar are likely to follow her for the places.
