Bandit arrested

DADU, Jan 14: The Dadu town police on Friday night arrested a bandit after an encounter in the Makhdoom Bilawal area. SHO Javed Ahmad Tunio said on Saturday morning that five bandits blocked the Indus Highway and started looting passengers. He said that a police party after cordoning off the area asked the bandits to surrender but they refused and opened fire on police. He said police returned the fire and after an encounter arrested Ghulam Nabi alias Gulabi Chachar and seized one rifle and 25 bullets from his possession.

He said Ghulam Nabi was wanted in 12 cases of robbery, kidnapping and murder registered at different police stations of the district. He claimed that he was a member of the gang of Paroo Chandio.

The Dadu DPO has recommended promotions of SI Javed Ahmad Tunio and other members of the police party.

STUDENTS’ PROTEST: A large number of students of the Ustad Bukhari Degree College, Dadu, held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday against district the zakat officer and other staff of the department for not releasing Ministry of Religious Affairs (Mora) scholarships to students.—Correspondent
