PESHAWAR: Students of the University of Peshawar have expressed serious concern over the suspension of classes and demanded of the provincial government to take appropriate steps for ensuring peace on the campus.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the students condemned the murder of two people including Bashir Ahmad, a teacher of Islamia College, and Saqlain Bangash, UoP security supervisor, and described the incidents extremely horrific.

Taqweemul Haq and Aftab Ahmad, leaders of Islami Jamiat Talba, while representing the students of Peshawar university, agriculture university and other institutions demanded of the government to take action against anyone involved in the murders.

They called for an impartial investigation into the incident and martyr’s package for the victim families. “The university’s management should ensure free education to the children of the deceased officials,” they said.

The student leaders asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to take steps for making the campus a peaceful place, saying that the closure of classes was no solution to the problem.

They also criticised the Peshawar University Teachers Association for boycotting the classes and said that it would cause irreparable loss to the students. They said they were not against the just demands of the teachers but added that they would not stay silent on the issue of classes’ suspension.
